about

True Aether and Enhorabuena Plantas! present a joint release of Julio Lugon’s new work 'Ritmos de Planta, Agua y Algunas Veces Orquesta de Transductores'.

On 'Ritmos de Planta...' Julio Lugon delves deep into the interconnection between the vegetative world and the universe of sound, translating the biological rhythms of photosynthesis into musical and spatial sound compositions. Drawing from his previous work Aristotle's Jungle, Lugon works with electrode equipped plants and DIY cybernetic machines creating “a horizontal dialogue or a biological feedback system” between artificial and organic worlds. Adding further depth to the album’s sonics are the murky underwater recordings, conducted and captured by Lugon, floating on a lake in a self-made raft. Blurring the lines of biological and synthetic, Lugon meditates whether sound can be both at once: a language beyond our own, intrinsic and unique to all entities and objects.

Originally commissioned by Enhorabuena Plantas!, a Lima, Peru based artist-run plant shop and art space, 'Ritmos de Planta...' was further realised during Lugon’s time at TUO TUO project space & AIR in Joutsa, Finland.

True Aether and Enhorabuena Plantas! present Julio Lugon’s 'Ritmos de Planta, Agua y Algunas Veces Orquesta de Transductores': five different plants and a dialogue beyond language.

////

Julio Lugon is a Berlin based interdisciplinary artist whose work focuses on sound and conceptual art, including installation, performance, electronics, biological data translation and graphics. Lugon incorporates non-human entities in his work, observing and responding to the interactions of those forces with the scientific-technical processes of human knowledge production. Lugon’s current projects deal with philosophical musings as with the challenges arising from social and ecological concerns. Lugon also operates under the alias Pira Lemu as an experimental musician, DJ, and as the host of the online radio show Radio Jurassic.

Enhorabuena.Plantas! is an artist-run plant & pot store and art space. Enhorabuena.Plantas! carry out plant related projects and commissions in the neighborhood of Barranco in Lima, Peru
